It’s really important to support local businesses here in Byron Bay however you can. Many have adapted their offering to provide some fantastic services to the local community during this lockdown…

For example, The Cape Byron Distillery is making, selling and delivering hand sanitiser from $2 a bottle, and plenty of cafes and restaurants are now offering takeaway food.

The Park Hotel in Suffolk Park is producing and delivering some seriously good home-cooked ready meals, like slow-cooked lamb casserole, chicken Thai green curry and even a Sunday roast.

Also, another great meals service is Dinner is Served, who are dropping-off delicious ready-to-heat meals across Byron Bay like lamb kofta and pumpkin tabouleh salad, or Tasmanian salmon with roasted kumara and snow pea tendril salad.

And Bayleaf in Byron Bay’s centre is offering a pickup and delivery service, which includes take home meals as well as breakfast foods, sandwiches and sweet treats.

Of course, you can still shop online to support local fashion and lifestyle shops and visit smaller supermarkets instead of the big chains.

Find a new hobby

Now is the time to take up that hobby you’ve always wanted to try…

Maybe it’s painting, sewing, yoga, learning a new language or reading more books.

It could even be something as simple as re-discovering your favourite old boardgame or spending the afternoon working on a puzzle.

Make a list of all the activities you want to try and next time you find yourself going stir-crazy, consult your list and pick a hobby.

Get baking with the kids

Speaking of hobbies, baking is a great way to pass the time in self-isolation, especially if you have small kids to keep entertained!

There are plenty of recipes out there to try, and many that don’t take hours to make or require hundreds of ingredients…

For example, banana pancakes, oatmeal cookies, chocolate brownies, blueberry muffins and protein balls can all be made with just a handful of ingredients.

And the best bit? It will result in delicious quarantine snacks to keep you going.

Have a cleaning routine

Get into a routine of washing your hands before and after eating, and whenever you come in from outside.

Also, regularly wipe down frequently touched surfaces like door handles, mobile phones, remote controls, kitchen gadgets and appliances, and light switches.

Not only will this ensure that you maintain a germ-free home, but it will also help put your mind at ease too.

And if you get any deliveries, wear gloves (if you have them), remember to dispose of the packaging and wash your hands thoroughly after handling anything.

Go for a daily walk

The advice from the government is to stay home and self-isolate, but you can still go outside for a short amount of exercise.

So, make time every day for a 10-minute walk around the block, just to get some fresh air and move your body.

You’ll be amazed how much this will help you to clear your head, remain positive and motivated to take on another day in lockdown.

Perfect your working from home set-up

Set up an area in your home where you’d be comfortable working all day long; maybe by a window? Or in a separate study for a bit of peace and quiet?

Make it a place you’re happy to work from by adding some finishing touches like a pot plant, lamp, scented candle, notebook, snack jar…get creative, this is your home office now.

Stay on top of your workload by making to-do lists every evening and add tasks and deadlines to an online calendar so you can clearly see what you’re working towards each day.

Be sure to take regular breaks and get up and walk around often. This will help you to re-focus quicker when you come back to your desk.

Drink lots of water all day long! It’s easy to forget, but so important for our brain power.

Keep in touch with your colleagues with scheduled Zoom meetings and set up VPN using programs like RemotePC or Teamviewer to access your computer in the office.
